Marriage...
My Marriage License, This gay man got a marriage license in Seattle last week. Unfortunately, I only obtained it by agreeing to marry a lesbian., by Dan Savage (03/11/04)
Part of me is almost afraid to get into this, but I've just got so say something, and I figure this article is as good a place to start as any. Ever since the government got into the business of marriage, it hasn't been a religious issue, but a secular one. And being secular, and government based, it is an issue of rights. Being that this country was founded on the basis of equal rights for ALL, the views of any group, religious or not, should not be allowed to infringe upon the rights of another to be equal.
If only a church could marry people, and the state could only offer a civil union, this wouldn't be an issue, because the church can do whatever it wants, being a private group. But now that marriage is in the hands of the government, this is a civil-rights issue, cut & dried, and the situation needs to be rectified.
