Honda ASIMO (Research Model) - Avoiding Obstacles
As one of the bloggers mentions, ASIMO has passed the uncanny valley. This is absolutely stunning. I recall just a few years ago when walking robots were still supported by massive cables strung over their heads for power and CPU control. Now, we've got a human-sized, humanoid robot that's entirely self-powered and autonomous, walking around and looking 'nervous' when it can't go where it wants to. Do you notice the arm movement when she gets in the way? That's somewhere between unbelievably cool, and really, really creepy.
