A sad, sad day for movie lovers
Not a Good Way to Celebrate St. Pat's: Coronet to Close Thursday
This has been The Place to see big name first-run action flicks for as long as I've been in the Bay Area. There are precious few 1200 seat big-screens around any more, and even fewer that show first run flicks, where going to see a movie opening night means a big line around the parking lot, and the entertainment and anticipation of standing in the midst of hundreds of other people, all waiting to see just how good it'll be. The reactions of 1200 people just can't be reproduced in a little multiplex screen that seats 500.
I was one of the crazy few who participated in camping out for Star Wars Ep 1 (back when we thought it'd be as good as the originals) on the sidewalk in front of this venerable movie house, and am quite sad I'll never have the chance to do its like again.
Thursday will be a sad, sad day.
Coronet, thank you for the memories. I'm glad I've got quite a few.
